Old Goa is a very fascinating place for visitors. The holy Basilica of Bom Jesus, is a famous pilgrimage center of Roman Catholics. This church houses the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier. Other well-known churches in Old Goa are the Church of St. Cajetan, Convent and Church of St. Francis of Assisi, Church of St. Augustine Ruins, Church of Our Lady of Rosary, Church and Convent of St. Monica, Chapel of St. Catherine and Chapel of St. Anthony.
Beaches of Goa:
Calangute Beach is the most popular of Goa’s beaches. Curving across the coastline of North Goa, this 7 kilometer long golden beach is popular with people of all ages. There is a number of food and trinket stall add along the beach.
Dona Paula: This beach is also called Lovers Paradise. Here tourists can avail various water sports activities including water-scooter rides, windsurfing, motorboat rides, parasailing, sports fishing, water-skiing, snorkeling, kayaking, harpoon fishing, and yachting.
Anjuna Beach: This beach is popular among young revelers. In the 70s it was a favorite hippie party spot. Even today this beach is a famous site of trance parties, on moonlit nights. Look out to visit the flea market on Wednesdays. You can buy trinkets and memorabilia at this market.
Colva and Benaulim Beaches: These beaches are found in South Goa, 20 km from Panaji. Unlike other beaches of Goa these beaches are quieter and more laid back. Colva beach stretches for 20 km and is the longest beach in the state. The stalls on the beach selling trinkets make this getaway ideal for a great time out.
Vagator and Chapora Beaches: Located about 24 km from Panaji to the North of Goa, these beaches are known for their laidback charm. Close to the venue lies a 500-year-old Portuguese fort which again is a very interesting place.
Dudhsagar Waterfall: Located 60 km from Panaji these exotic waterfalls look like a milky stream from a distance. The landscape around these falls is truly amazing.
Palolem Beach: This beach is also known as Paradise beach. It is less crowded and hence has a peaceful atmosphere than some of the more popular beaches in the state. Dolphin cruises and fishing expeditions are available at this part of the state.
Agonda Beach: This is a 3 km long beach fringed by palms.
Goa also has a number of Hindu temples. You can visit the the Shanta Durga Temple, Shri Mangesha Temple, the Mahalaxmi Temple, the Shri Ganesha Temple, Shri Anantha Temple, Shri Chandreshwar Temple, Devaki-Krishna Temple and Shri Nagesh Maharudra Temple.
Other attractions in Goa include the church dedicated to our Lady of Immaculate Conception, the Chapel of St. Sebastian, the Secretariat building, the Goa State Museum, and the statue of Abbe Faria.
