Jodhpur is a city located on the foothill of a sandstone hillock. The city is known for its splendor, traditions and culture. The various forts, palaces and monuments of the city talk a lot about the rich past of the city. No wonder this is one of the most favored tourist destinations in India.

The main tourist attractions in Jodhpur include:

Mehrangarh Fort:
The Mehrangarh Fort is the most important and impressive fort in Jodhpur. Located on 150 meter high hill, it houses number of attractions like several palaces, galleries, a museum, temples etc.

Umaid Bhavan Palace:
One of the astounding palaces of Rajasthan is the Umaid Bhavan palace in Jodhpur. Constructed by Maharaja Umaid Singh, the palace has now been converted into a hotel and a museum. The memorablia and royal articles in the museum are a great attraction.

Jaswant Thada:
To the left of the famous Mehrangarh fort complex, lies Jaswant Thada. It is a royal cenotaph made up of white marble. Jaswant Thada was built to commemorate the rule Maharaja Jaswant Singh. Here yopu can come across some of the rare portraits of the former rulers of Jodhpur.

Jodhpur has three famous lakes namely the Balsammand Lake, the Kaylana Lake,and the Sardar Samand Lake. The lakes offer placid and picturesque surroundings and hence must be included in ones itinerary.

To serve as a break from the desert landscape, Jodhpur has a few parks and gardens. Gardens in a desert should never be given a miss. Some of the famous gardens of Jodhpur, Rajasthan are mentioned below:

Mandore Garden – This garden has a rocky terrain. The cenotaphs of Jodhpur’s former rulers make it mandatory to visit the place.

Umed Garden – This garden has a zoo along with an aviary. This place serves as a good change to the sight of forts and museums.

Nehru Park – This Park is famous for its fountains, ponds, etc.

There are a few interesting museums in Jodhpur. The collections here tell about the history of Jodhpur, particularly about its royal lineage. The exquisite collections here also include artifacts and other items. The main museums in Jodhpur, Rajasthan are:

Government Museum: This famous museum is situated in the middle of Umaid public Gardens.

Umaid Bhavan Palace Museum: This museum displays a range of items belonging to the royal family.

Mehrangarh Fort Museum: This museum has an interesting and diverse collection of old royal palanquins.
