Lonavala is a charming little hill stations on the western slopes of the Sahyadris, Located at an altitude of 625 meter on the Pune- Mumbai highway it is a popular health resort. Nature has blessed the place with deep green valleys, huge lakes, beautiful hills, waterfalls, and historic forts. Lonavala is a great place to visit during the monsoons. The cascading waterfalls stretched out plains and surrounding mountains offer a splendid view to the sight.

Attractions in Lonavala:
Lonavala is well known for its ancient rock cut caves of Karla and Bhaja. The presense of these caves tell us about the prominence of Hinayana Buddhism in this region in the 2nd century B.C. Areas around the caves are dotted with several rocky hills that are best suited for rock climbing. The Duke’s Nose peak located in the Karla hills near Lonavala is the moist famous among them.

Rajmachi Point is a famous waterfall site located 6.5 km from Lonavala. It offers uninterrupted views of Shivaji’s fort.

Another picturesque spot of Lonavala that is visited by most tourists is the Tungarli Lake. Because of its natural setting many find it to be the most romantic place in Lonaval. The Ryewood Park & Shivaji Udyan is a sprawling garden with tall dense trees. The garden has lots of space for the children to play. You can find a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva within.

The nature lovers can make their way to Bhushi Dam which is an excellent picnic spot ideal for spending some quality time with family or with friends.

For some serene and calm moments in Lonavala you can visit the Valvan Dam. Located 2 kms from the town many people visit the scenic spot in their leisure. Other enchanting attractions in Lonavala are Tiger’s Leap, Lohagad, Lonavala Lake, and Lion’s Point.

Bushy Dam in Lonaval is worth a visit during the monsoons. At this time of the year overflowing waters create a gushing waterfall over the dam. All round the year it is a popular picnic spot. Duke’s Nose named after Duke Wellington, is a magnificent pointed cliff from where you can get sweeping views of the region. Kamshet, a place close to Lonaval is well known for its paragliding opportunities.

The transport system in Lonavala is smooth and frequent. The place also offers fine lodging options to the tourists.

Because of its all-round beauty the place is also known as the “Jewel of the Sahyadri Mountains”.
